Vertical Dance Workshops

Our vertical dance workshops offer a unique opportunity to take your movement practice off the ground and into the towering redwood trees, exploring vertical dance as a meeting point between body, gravity, and landscape. These outdoor experiences invite you into the heart of the redwood forest, where you’ll be safely harnessed and supported as you explore movement, curiosity, and the incredible sensation of being suspended in the trees.

Please contact the company to book a private class or sign up for one of our current offerings.

Saturday, May 9 | 10am - 1pm

Dance The Redwoods Summer Camp

Session 1: June 22-26

Session 2: August 10-14

Every summer we watch young performers explore their own creative voice as they learn to ascend up into the trees and move with the redwoods, the tallest trees in the world! This rare and unique camp experience helps campers build confidence with climbing gear, strengthen and expand their dance technique and movement vocabulary, and connect with the magnificent and rare ecosystem here on the Mendocino Coast.

Camp is located just 5 minutes from Mendocino Village. Camp runs from 10am to 3pm Monday through Friday with a final performance on Friday for family and friends. Camp is open to ages 9 to 17 years old. Scholarships are available thanks to the generosity of the Mendocino Coast Children’s Fund.

Parkinson’s Dance Classes

Classes are ongoing

The essence of dance is joy. In addition to all of the physical benefits, dance builds community. It brings people together, provides a space to connect, and offers healthy and fun ways to build strength, coordination, balance, and stability all while using creativity and imagery to inspire movement. Our programming has been made possible in part by The Community Foundation of Mendocino County’s 2025 Fund for Healthy and Inclusive Communities, a Dance for PD Launch Grant, a funding initiative of the Mark Morris Dance Group’s Dance for PD® program, Mendocino Coast Recreation and Park District’s District Services Grant, and generous donors. Classes are offered at no cost. Please contact us if you are interested in joining or click the button below to make a donation to this program.

Creative Movement in Schools

Mendocino Dance Project has been offering creative movement and dance in our local schools since 2015. We are currently providing dance education at Mendocino K8, Redwood Elementary School, and Anderson Valley Elementary School.

The essence of dance is joy and we love sharing our love of movement and the human body with students of all ages. Dance is a great means to strengthen the mind and body connection. Students develop a strong sense of confidence, spatial and social awareness, balance, creativity, and coordination. It seems that all students, however diverse, can relate to dance and movement and find a new voice in this unusual and active classroom environment. Please contact us about bringing dance to your school.
